Toshiro Mifune 100th anniversary

Toshiro Mifune 100th anniversary

It’s the last day of May. Today, we were able to play with four great friends Nagakura and Sakaguchi, and Nakaseko.

For the first time in my life, I went to golf courses so often this month. I took a rest on the last Sunday of the third week, but most of the rest I went to Shin-Numazu Country Club.

It is an emergency due to the spread of coronavirus. The restaurant and the bath are closed at the golf course, and sandwiches or rice balls are distributed, and after a short break, they play.

This type of through play seems to be common in foreign countries, but in Japan there were few places that used this type until now. As a player, the style of continuing to play without eating slowly in the cafeteria during lunchtime was both a surprise and a fresh experience.

If you actually experience it, it will finish sooner, and you will be able to return home earlier, so if you come from a distance such as Tokyo or Yokohama, this method will be more helpful. According to an online survey, nearly 70% of players said they would like this format to continue.

If this happens, the golf course will no longer need a restaurant, which will pose a difficult business problem. How to deal with each golf course is a big issue in the future.

■ Well, as I read the Nikkei newspaper today, I realized that this year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of movie actor Toshiro Mifune. Mifune was born on April 1, 1920 and died on December 24, 1997.

I don’t think there are many Japanese who haven’t seen Toshiro Mifune’s movie, but in the combination with Akira Kurosawa, they made a number of masterpieces. Director Kurosawa always talked about the greatness of Mr. Mifune’s presence in his work before he died.

Various anecdotes have been left on Mifune, including anecdotes when he was taken the test of Toho’s new face. Actress Hideko Takamine serialized “Watasino Tosei nikki ” serialized in 1975 Weekly Asahi, and I was able to know many such anecdotes.

Mifune is not a mediocre person, so his attitude during the exam was unacceptable as an examiner. Since his father was running a photo studio, he had a deep knowledge of the camera, and he seemed to have taken the test as a photographer, but he decided to debut as an actor after being caught by Director Kurosawa.

One of his works, “Heaven and Hell,” was featured in today’s Nikkei newspaper. This is a work that I also reviewed many times.

I’m currently reading the article by Toshiro Mifune on Wikipedia, but it seems that he was familiar with photography technology because his father ran a photo studio. He wanted to make use of that knowledge to enter the movie world, but by accident he took an examination as an actor and decided to start a new life as Toho 1st New Face.

The episode in that test is just like Mifune, or it shows off a large scale of big instruments. Without Hideko Takamine and Akira Kurosawa, that big actor must have been born.

After some twists and turns, Mifune debuted in 1947 with the movie “Ginrei no Hate” directed by Chikichi Taniguchi. It was my debut at the age of 27. The following year, he became a star in the movie “Drunken Tenshi” directed by Akira Kurosawa, his third debut in 1948.

Then, in 1949, he starred in the “Stray Dog”. 1950 “Rashomon”, 1954 “Seven Samurai”, 1957 “Spiderweb”, 1961 “Bouncer”, 1962 “Tsubaki Sanjuro”, 1963 “Heaven and Hell”, 1965 “Redbeard” and so on. And starred in a masterpiece.

When I lived in Kawaguchi at the age of 12, I remember seeing the poster of the movie “Redbeard” that was released at that time on the telephone pole.

I reviewed “Tsubaki Sanjuro” that was recorded earlier. It was the golden age of Japanese movies.
