2011年2月22日-26日：オーストラリアへの旅
日本から一日がかりで、ようやく到着できました。家族の皆さんで暖かく迎えていただきました。本当に感謝、感謝です。
With a day from Japan, we have finally arrived at Geelong. The Jones family welcomed us warmly. Really grateful thanks.
メルボルン空港からご自宅までは一時間ほど。交通渋滞などというものとは無縁のようなスムーズさでした。途中の風景で驚いたのは、とにかく地平線まで見通せること。そして川が無いことでした。高い山がありませんので雨も少なく雪が積もることもないようですので、結局は草原が一望のもと延々と続く、という景色になります。
It takes about 1 hour from Melbourne Airport to Jones family. It was as smooth as there was no traffic congestion. What surprised me in the scenery on the way was that I could see the horizon anyway. And there was no river. Since there are no high mountains, it seems that there is little rain and no snow piles up.
滅多に無い洪水が昨年周辺を襲ったようです。まれに大雨が降ると、たちまち洪水になってしまうのはやむを得ないのでしょう。あちこちに爪痕がありました。
It seems that rare floods hit the area last year. It is unavoidable that a heavy rain will cause a flood immediately. There were nail marks here and there.

ご自宅は何と 10 エーカーの敷地に建てられています。分かり易く言えば公園の中に自宅がある、という感じです。日本では想像もできません。
The Jones family lives in a house built on a whopping 10 acres of land. Put simply, it’s like having a home in a park. I can’t imagine it in Japan.
どこまでがジョーンズさんの敷地なのか、見渡すことすらできません。
I can’t even see how far Jones’ land is.

Ian Jones さんと乾杯。二歳でイギリスを離れ 10 代でオーストラリアに移住したアイアンさんは、自力でこの家を作り上げました。何から何まで手作りです。本当にびっくりです。
Cheers with Ian Jones. Iron left the UK at the age of two and moved to Australia as a teenager, and built the house on his own. Everything is handmade. I’m really surprised.
生き抜く力というものが卓越しているのです。本当にスゴイ人です。
His ability to survive is outstanding. Really amazing.

アイアンさんが薪を燃やし、その熱で釜蒸し焼きを作ってくれました。余分な香辛料や添加物は入れずに、素材の力を生かした料理です。
Iron burned wood and made the kettle with the heat. He cooked with the power of the ingredients without adding any extra spices or additives.

これがいただいたお料理です。シンプル イズ ベスト です。時間を掛けてじっくり作ってくださいました。
This is the dish we got. Cooking is “simple is best”. He took the time to make it.
